Canada Must Act Against Human Rights Violation in Ethiopia

Although, Canadian Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan met with Ethiopian Prime Minister after the bloody weekend of August but there was no any condemned nor a call to allow peaceful demonstrations. However is very demanded by the peace and justice seekers.

During the Visit there was also a media briefing included pledges from Mr. Sajjan about commitments to future partnerships on peacekeeping, trade and security.

It was last November that the protest begun by the Oromo people who are the largest group in the country. And then followed by Amhara region in Gondor concerning the Wolkait region and now it is spreading all over the country including Gambela and Konso Regions.

Ethiopian security forces have killed at least 500 protesters and detained tens of thousands of people during largely peaceful anti-government demonstrations. In one August weekend alone, security forces gunned down at least 100 protesters.

This number has now increased since then including the dead in Qilinto Fire and the late killing in Konso region by the government Security force.

Indeed this demonstration is growing wide as many tourists are getting scared of visiting places in the country which will affect the country’s economy one way or another.

Regarding this countries like Israel have warned their citizens in Ethiopia to stop traveling and making any movement to regions where there is high demonstration and fight.
